Surgeon Mortality
A total of 3,010 bariatric procedures were carried out by Phoenix Health’s surgeons in the North West between April 2005 and March 2014.
Many of these patients had significant comorbidity (associated medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and breathing difficulties).
The vast majority (80%) underwent more complex types of procedure such as gastric bypass, sleeve, duodenal switch or revisional (‘re-do’) surgery.
The 30 day and in-patient mortality rate (deaths occurring before discharge from hospital) for all patients treated was 0.03% (1 in 3,000).
