Meet The Surgeon

What is the pre-surgery or liver-reducing diet, how long does it last and what does it do?

Much of the excess energy we take in is stored within the liver as fat or glycogen. The pre-op liver-shrinking diet is designed to get you to burn off as much of this stored energy in your liver so that the liver literally shrinks down and becomes softer and thinner. This really helps the surgeon to get a clearer view during the operation and thus makes your surgery safer. The basis of the liver-shrinking diet is a high protein, low fat, low carb diet that is usually taken for at least 2 weeks before surgery.
