Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

When bariatric surgery has resulted in complications, or when it proves ineffective, revisional weight loss surgery can be performed. Revisional surgery should only be carried out in highly experienced centres as it is the most complex type of bariatric surgery and is therefore the highest risk.

Whenever a re-operation is required (such as conversion of a gastric band to an alternative procedure like the gastric bypass or sleeve) it is always more complicated as the anatomy may be slightly different. There may be lots of dense scar tissue in the area, and the tissue is often more difficult to handle. There is almost double the risk of major complications and death with revisional surgery than with first-time bariatric surgery.

At Phoenix Health we have access to some of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the UK and Ireland, who have been trained to deal with these complex cases. We are therefore in the best position to advise you whether revisional surgery is the right option for you and which treatment would work best.

Whether you aren’t satisfied with a recent weight loss procedure, or maybe you feel a procedure you had some years ago has lost its effectiveness, talk to us and see what options are available.
